Emma met Aaron through a friend during a night out in 2003. Seven years, a house, and a border collie later, Emma and Aaron were holidaying in New Zealand. They had spent the day driving through the beautiful South Island and had arrived at their Mount Cook destination.

As it happened, it was AFL Grand Final day, and a tired Emma wanted to watch the game – but Aaron insisted on going for a walk. She eventually agreed and the pair strolled to a beautiful lookout. It was then that Aaron got down on bended knee and asked Emma to be his wife. They celebrated with a three-course dinner and it was, Emma says, one of the best days of her life.

Emma and Aaron chose a timeless, classic theme for their wedding, and Emma says that many of her stylish ideas came from searching through bridal magazines – especially The Bride’s Diary!

Choosing her dress was easy. As soon as Emma slipped into her gorgeous strapless Fiorenza gown with its satin ribbing and silk tulle fish tail, she knew it was ‘the one’. Her bridesmaids opted for black taffeta cocktail dresses by Carla Zampatti. Emma’s flower girl, the daughter of the friend who had first introduced the couple, wore a pretty white tulle dress with a black ribbon sash. The flower girl’s parents were also in the bridal party.

On their wedding day, Emma and her girls arrived at the church in a silver ten-seater stretch limousine. The bridesmaids walked down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Cannon in D and, after a brief pause, the church doors dramatically reopened as Emma made her entry to At Last by Etta James. The ceremony that followed was, in Emma’s, words completely surreal, with the couple’s celebrant ensuring that proceedings were both personal and deeply moving.

Emma says that walking into their reception took her breath away. Every carefully planned detail – from the lisianthus and white David Austin rose centre-pieces, to the delicious white chocolate and raspberry mud cake with its classic black ribbon decoration – had come together perfectly.

After the speeches, the couple danced to Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World, before their bridal party and parents joined them on the floor to the Frank Sinatra classic, Come Fly With Me.

Aaron had been a Camp Quality volunteer for ten years, so the couple’s bomboniere was a donation to Camp Quality made on behalf of each guest.

An Art Deco Affair

Carlene and James met when they were sent by their respective companies to attend a management course in Strathalbyn. The pair struck up a conversation, something very special clicked and they’ve been together ever since.

It was quite some time later when James surprised Carlene with a weekend away in Robe. He had arranged absolutely everything, even down to packing Carlene’s clothes and make-up. For one evening of their stay, he planned a picnic by the ocean that included French champagne, a delicious dinner and chocolates.

Even though the sun was shining, it was still very cold, so Carlene and James drove their hatchback down onto the beach and set up the picnic in the back of the car. Comfortably settled and warm in the car, they were enjoying the food and champagne as the sun began to set. It was then that a very nervous James proposed, and a very excited Carlene said ‘Yes’.

Carlene and James decided on a New Year’s Eve wedding. The couple wanted their guests to not only enjoy their wedding, but also a great NYE celebration, so they concentrated on ensuring that the day would be a memorable one.

Both Carlene and James admire the Art Deco era, and generally prefer vintage over modern. This made their wedding day theme an easy choice as they focussed on all things vintage for inspiration. Their reception area was decorated with almost 100 vintage crystal and glass vases filled with gorgeous white roses and lisianthus. Antique silver vases with large white ostrich feathers dotted the room, and a brown leather chesterfield lounge, kindly lent to the couple by Mt Lofty House, was set up in the reception venue’s gardens. A beautiful vintage-look chandelier hung above the chesterfield in an unusual, but chic touch.

After a moving ceremony the bridal party left for their photo shoot. The couple’s guests were served hors d’oeuvres and drinks in the garden while a second photographer took photos in a photobooth.

A design motif incorporated throughout the wedding was a pair of hummingbirds – the birds featured on Carlene and James’ beautiful laser cut invitations, their menu, table numbers, bomboniere, and also on the small name place holders that were perched on their guests’ champagne glasses.

After a long but joyous wedding celebration, the happy couple honeymooned in the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
