Vintage Charm at River Murray

We love the gorgeous wedding of Renee and Shannon Moldovan featured in the latest edition of The Bride's Diary…

Renee & Shannon Moldovan • 30th Cctober, 2010

Although Renee and Shannon both attended Renmark high school, they were a year apart in age and their paths rarely crossed. However, several years later that changed.

Both Shannon and Renee’s sisters were living in Adelaide, and Renee, still based in Renmark, often visited her sister. Convinced that Renee and Shannon were right for each other, Renee’s sister and mother joined forces with Shannon’s sister, intent on instigating a little bit of romance. It worked! Renee and Shannon started dating, and for the next three-and-a-half years, took turns to drive the six-hour return journey to see one another on weekends.

Three months after Renee moved to Adelaide to live with Shannon, the couple went to a wine festival with friends when early one morning, Shannon suggested they go for a pre-breakfast walk. Noticing a koala in a tree, Renee, a keen photographer, was busy taking snaps when, to her complete surprise, Shannon pulled a ring box out of his pocket. Realising what was about to happen, she burst into tears, the koala completely forgotten.

Blessed with perfect weather, Renee and Shannon’s wedding day was idyllic. They chose to exchange their vows under the big red gums on the banks of the River Murray at Renee’s parent’s property.

Renee and her girls dressed at her parent’s home, while Shannon and his groomsmen had a relaxed morning on a houseboat.

Renee’s mother, a dressmaker, created Renee’s gorgeous satin dress, with its beautiful ivory lace overlay and hand-beaded bodice and hemline from Renee’s sketches. Renee’s mother also attached a piece of her own wedding dress fabric into the gown’s lining.

Renee’s father walked her down the aisle to All You Need Is Love from Love Actually and the couple signed the Registry seated at Renee’s old primary school desk.

The reception was held at the Renmark Club, which the couple decorated with tea light candles, candelabra and fairy lights. They danced their bridal waltz to If This is It by Newton Faulkner, a special song they had chosen because they knew there would be plenty of moments that day they would have liked to have frozen in time.

Their rich chocolate mud wedding cake was served as dessert with mango and native rosella flower flavoured gelato made by Renee’s uncle, and for their bomboniere, the couple chose mouth-watering pieces of gourmet rocky road made with love by Shannon, Renee, and her matron of honour.
